Dance Technology: Dancers use LED Lighting to Create Optical Illusions

Thanks to YouTube, the style of dance where performers use LED technology has gone viral and is mesmerizing viewers. Dance crews, like the Wrecking Crew Orchestra and “America’s Got Talent” season 6 finalists, Team iLuminate, perform in the dark wearing specially designed glow-suits to create optical illusions.

The glow-suit is rapidly gaining momentum and is the newest trend in dance, stage performance, and LED lighting.

This just goes to show you that only lighting has the ability to completely transform something, creating an entirely new experience.

The Wrecking Crew Orchestra’s newest YouTube video shows just what these glow-suits are capable of.

With patents pending, iLuminate, is the first and only company in the US to produce a wearable wireless LED system. Their suits can use real-time control mediums like DMX consoles and pre-programmed sequences that can be triggered by the performer.

Just like the Wrecking Crew Orchestra, iLuminate, has advanced the dance technology. Here is Team iLuminate’s performace that earned them third place on the sixth season of “America’s Got Talent.”

We can’t wait to see what is next in the dance technology revolution!

Ten Reasons Why: Brides

This week, we continue on the luminous journey of our “Ten Reasons Why” series, with Brides!

If you don’t know what the heck we’re talking about, read this first.

If you’re a bride (or wedding planner) who is thinking about having lighting at your wedding but would like some more information, you’re in the right place! Here are 10 reasons why our Wireless Battery Powered LEDs are exactly what you need!

1. Fast and simple setup

Take the LED fixtures out of the case, turn on each fixture, place the LEDs where desired, turn on the wireless controller, choose a program, and viola! So easy, your uncle (the one who insists on showing his “dance moves” at every family celebration) can do it!

2. Sixteen preset programs

The wireless controller used to control the LED fixtures, has six color-changing programs and six static-color options to choose from. The speed and/or intensity of each program can be adjusted.

3. Affordable professional lighting

The Wireless Battery Powered LEDs are rented by the case. Each case holds 12 LED fixtures, totaling $360 (tax not included). A wireless controller is $30. One controller can control any number of fixtures in the same area. Additional controllers are only needed if the fixtures will be in separated areas (i.e. two different rooms). If needing more than 12 fixtures, you would rent two cases (24 fixtures), three cases (36 fixtures), etc.

4. Presentable fixtures

The LED fixtures are in white compact housings for low visibility. Each fixture weights 12 lbs. and measures 17”x 3”x 11”, making them easy to transport if needed.

5. Full RGBW color-mixing

The Wireless Battery Powered LEDs use RGBW (red, green, blue, white) color-mixing technology to provide a wide range of color options to choose from.

6. Can go anywhere

No power outlets or cable needed here! So these fixtures can go anywhere! If you can think it, we can light it.  The wireless controller and built-in 2.4G receiver in each fixture, have a max signal reach of about 1,200 feet; making these fixtures perfect for large spaces.

7. No Cable

Each fixture being completely wireless, means no unsightly cable amongst the rest of the wedding décor.

8. Battery life of 18 hours

Each fixture has a built-in rechargeable battery, which has up to 18 hours of battery life.

9. User-friendly

Interchange between programs throughout the evening by simply pushing a button on the wireless controller.

10.  Professional quality lighting

The Wireless Battery Powered LEDs provide professional quality lighting without the professional price tag.

We hope these 10 reasons helped you to see that lighting isn’t all that complicated after all!  Here at Bay Stage Lighting, we understand that lighting can be intimidating to some, but we hope to change that with our new Battery Powered LEDs. They really are simple to use.

For more information on our Wireless Battery Powered LEDs, feel free to call any one of our team members at 813.877.1089

Next stop on our journey… A/V companies.

‘Til next time, stay bright.

The Legend of Leap Year

So why is it that every 4 years, we get an extra day in February?

Leap Years are needed to keep our modern Gregorian calendar in alignment with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun.

It takes the Earth approximately 365.242199 days – or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds – to circle once around the Sun.

But the Gregorian calendar we use has only 365 days in a year. So if we didn’t add an extra day every 4 years, we would lose almost six hours off our calendar every year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by 24 days!

When someone is born on a Leap Day, when do they celebrate their Birthday?

The rule of thumb is that if someone is born before noon on February 29th, they celebrate their birthday on February 28th. Those who are born after noon on February 29th, celebrate on March 1st.

Who invented Leap Year?

Our boy Julius Caesar did some 2000 years ago!

Traditions and Suspicions:

On February 29th, it is more common for women to propose to men!

This roots back to the legend of St Bridget striking a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men, to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how Leap Day balances the calendar.

Tradition states that any man who refuses a woman’s proposal on February 29th is required to buy her 12 pairs of gloves, so she could hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring on!

If you’re born on a Leap Day you can join The Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies!

It is said that it is back luck to be born on Leap Day.

So Happy Leap Day everyone! Make this day count, because it won’t happen again for another 4 years!
